And they aimed to expel it from the Holy Land by military power, most notably during the First Jewish–Roman War (66–70). The movement tried to arouse the people of the Judea Province to rebel against the Roman Empire. The Zealotsīecause Simon had the title Zealot, some assumed that he was part of the political group the “Zealots.” This group was a 1 st-century movement that exited in Judaism. And this nickname “Zealot” was given to him to distinguish him from Simon Peter.

The word, “Zealot” is a title driven from the Hebrew word qanai, meaning zealous. Jerome and others mistook the word to signify that the apostle was from the town of Cana. The term “Canaanite” has no reference to the land of Canaan.
